Thursday 9 - Tuesday 14 May

Join HGSS for Israel Week, leading up to Yom Hazikaron (Israel Memorial Day) and Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel Independence Day), as we host a series of events to raise awareness and support for three incredible charities in Israel that are focused on ‘trauma relief’ in the wake of the October 7 attack.

In the face of unprecedented challenges, these organisations have doubled their efforts and repurposed themselves over the last six months. Their resilience and dedication to delivering the level of service and support required to alleviate trauma at every part of Israeli society is truly inspiring.

Choosing which charities to support was not easy, but we’ve identified three hugely deserving organisations whose work delivers the vital support required during a time of national trauma and instability. Details of each of the charities are shown below.

Engage, contribute and help us make a meaningful difference.

Israel Trauma Coalition

The Israel Trauma Coalition is the cornerstone of national trauma care and emergency preparedness in Israel, it serves as a knowledge centre that provides leadership , guidance and resources before, during and after a crisis. It has served and continues to serve as vital trauma support since October 7.

With its 12 resilience centres operating across the country and in particular the Gaza Envelope and Southern region, they continue to provide local authorities, professionals and the general public with vital optimal emergency preparedness, community resilience and therapeutic continuity.

Israel Life Saving Federation
The Israel Life Saving Federation (ILSF) has repurposed itself from a beach based life saving organization in order to provide immediate emotional support for children from displaced families from the communities close to Gaza who are grappling with severe emotional distress and trauma as they come to terms with the aftermath of October 7. ILSF in collaboration with renowned trauma experts Emotion Aid have developed the Rescue Resilience Programme which provides professional support to children and youth affected by October 7 and the ongoing war.
Their programmes aim to help young children regain trust in themselves and in humanity via mental health and trauma support in a group setting guided by professionals who can create a safe and engaging environment.

Association of Rape Crisis Centers in Israel

Founded in 1990, The Association of Rape Crisis Centers in Israel (ARCCI) is the only organization in Israel whose main aim is to combat sexual violence. Their work is at both an individual and regional level to provide services and support for individual victims of sexual violence and also to raise awareness in local communities.

Their work has alway been of the highest importance but even more so since October 7. ARCCI’s mission is to combat sexual violence at the national level by making the silent voices of victims heard. They commissioned a report, “Silent Cry” into the horrendous sexual violence perpetrated on October 7 and, once read by the UN, allowed the world to understand the depths of depravity carried out that day.

They continue to work with the Knesset highlighting  surging levels of reported sexual violence amongst displaced families and beyond.
