Our services

SHUL SERVICE

Starting at 9.30am on Shabbat and holidays in the Shul, Chazan Avromi leads our shul service. His enchanting voice and repertoire of uplifting tunes encourages the whole congregation to join in. Our Friday night Kabbalat Shabbat service is a particular highlight, especially in the winter months when it is followed by a chicken soup kiddush.

SEPHARDI MINYAN

Starting at 9am on Shabbat in the Landy Gallery, our Sephardi Minyan is a little corner of Israel, right here in Norrice Lea.

The members who participate in the services come from all over the world – Israel, Morocco, Iraq, Lebanon, Iran, Brazil, France, Tunisia, Libya, Uzbekistan, Italy and of course the UK. The service is conducted in the Yerushalmi Tradition and a kiddush with a d’var torah and singing follows the service.

HASHKAMA MINYAN

Starting at 7.45am on Shabbat in the Max Weinbaum Hall, the Hashkama Minyan is one for the early risers. It’s led by attendees of the minyan and everyone is encouraged to participate, whether to daven, lein or read the Haftarah. A seated kiddush follows the service, with a d’var torah from the Rabbi or a guest speaker.

CHAVERIM

The Chaverim service is family friendly service held approximately once per month in conjunction with the Youth Service. It’s an opportunities for families to sit with their kids in a small, more intimate environment. There are also lots of opportunities for everyone to get involved in the service, whether that’s reading prayers in English or Hebrew, giving a d’var torah, davening or leining.

YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

The Link Minyan for Young Professionals runs for the High Holy Days and occasionally during the year.

YELADIM SERVICES

Our children and youth are very much at the heart of the HGSS community. We warmly welcome all children to our fun and interactive children’s services which are held every Shabbat and Yom Tov. The services are split into different age groups each offering a mixture of singing, games and stories gradually preparing the children for the Youth and Shul services.

All the services begin at 10.45am and run for approximately 45 minutes followed by KIDdish.

YOUTH
The Youth Service runs every Shabbat morning throughout the year during term time, and is for everyone in years 7 to 13. It’s a fun service with peer led davening and leining. There’s lots of opportunities to be involved in taking and organising the service, or just sit back and enjoy a shorter, more accessible service. There’s also great food and occasional breakout educational sessions.
